In Jacks or Better 5 Hand, the goal is to achieve the best five-card poker hand possible. The hands rank from high to low in the following order: royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, three of a kind, two pair, one pair, and high card.

If two or more hands have the same rank, the pot is split equally between the players with the highest ranking hands. In Jacks or Better 5 Hand you are dealt five cards face up. After you look at your cards you must decide how many of them you want to keep. You can keep any number of cards between zero and five. The rest of the cards are replaced by new ones from the deck and then your final hand is evaluated.

The ace is high and ranks just below the king. The other card suits are all of equal rank. Here is an example: if you are dealt the following hand: 2♥ 3♦ 4♠ 7♣, you would keep the 2♥ and 3♦ for a pair of threes. The 4♠ and 7♣ would be replaced with new cards from the deck to give you a new hand. If that new hand was 2♥ 3♦ 6♣ 7♣ then your final hand would be two pair (threes and sixes).

If you opt to keep all five cards (called playing "the board"), then your final hand would be evaluated as if you had chosen to draw no new cards (this is usually only done when holding a guaranteed winning hand).
